Located in the heart of the 'Dolomiti Superski' area with over 1,000 kilometres of connected piste
Canazei is considered to be the sport and ski capital of the valley named Val di Fassa. It is an area of outstanding beauty, set in the very heart of the Italian Dolomites. Canazei has four outlying areas called Gries, Chieva, Alba and Penia, and without being the most populated town in the Val di Fassa, it is one of the most renowned. Above all it is acclaimed internationally for its winter tourism due to its strategic position in the Dolomite Passes of Pordoi, Sella and Fedaia. The very modern ski lifts make the area of Canazei a model ski resort in the alpine arc, directly linked to the Giro del Sellaronda. Set in a picturesque natural basin and at the foot of some of the most alluring Dolomite peaks, Canazei has experienced a floury of new buildings during the last decade, whilst remaining firmly tied to its Ladin origins and traditions, of which many visible traces remain in the architecture and in its popular customs.
Canazei is a great starting point for all skiers. The Belvedere ski area, located just above the resort, is the entry door to the world of skiing in the famous Sella Ronda circuit. This resort also has an envious position right in the heart of the 'Dolomiti Superski' area, which offers more than 1,000 kilometres of well-groomed connected pistes. For the non-skier there are attractive valley walks from Canazei to its neighbouring villages, extensive cross country trails and a public pool with spa centre. The bustling, characteristic centre of Canazei has interesting shops and terrace cafés to soak up the winter sun. For après-ski, there are several bars, stübes and venues to choose from. Try the Husky Bar for a lively atmosphere with dancing into the early hours.
The Sella Ronda circuit provides a wealth of well prepared intermediate runs. The neighbouring Alba's Ciampac area is also great to explore, offering beautiful landscapes and connections to the lower Fassa valley. Advanced and experts skiers should make full use of the Superski lift pass and head to Alba's infamous black run. Both the World Cup Val Gardena run down into Santa Cristina and the Super G Gran Risa piste at La Villa are easily accessible from here. Skiing the Marmolada glacier also should not be missed, including taking a well earned break at the "terrace of the Dolomites" on top of the Sella Massif, which guarantees exhilarating views of the surrounding mountains. Snowboarders will also find Canazei very boarder friendly, with a snowboard park and half pipe located at the top of the Belvedere gondola.
