Bad Gastein
Gastein Valley is a true winter paradise
This world-renowned spa town set in the midst of the Hohe Tauern National Park becomes in winter an exciting ski resort that is bound to make every skier's and snowboarder's heart beat ten times faster. Naturally you will find, loads and loads of glistening snow, perfect pistes and endless Après-ski activities. Bad Gastein lies in the Gasteinertal ski area, one of five largest ski areas in Austria but is not as widely known to the English-speaking world, as it should be.
This area covers over 200 kilometres of groomed piste and is surrounded by 17 thermal springs set amongst a landscape of glacier mills and striations, natural stone monuments, remnants of the ice age. Bad Hofgastein is also situated in the valley and if you base yourself in either resorts you have access to the slopes of the Graukogel, 2100 metres high and Stuberkogel, 2245 metres high mountains, both linked by lifts. Of particular importance in the Gastein Valley is the 8 kilometre red run from Hohe Scharte into Bad Hofgastein.
