Lenzerheide
A charming old town that is popular in both winter and summer
Lenzerheide is the larger ''half'' of an area now called Lenzerheide-Valbella. A spa resort located at the top of the pass between Chur and Tiefencastel in eastern Switzerland. Popular all year round, the hotels in this winter paradise are built in the traditional Swiss style, set amongst stunning mountains, with lake and woodland views. This ski resort is excellent for expert skiers, fantastic for intermediates and good for beginners, as well as great for snowboarding.
The skiing in Lenzerheide is extensive with over 150 kilometres of daily groomed runs spread out on snow-safe elevations of 1500 to 2865 metres on both flanks of the valley, which are sun drenched and represent an adventurous paradise for all. Beginners and intermediates will either ski between the Rothorn and Statzerhorn slopes, however whichever side you ski on in Lenzerheide the runs will take you back in to the village, so you are never too far from the apres ski. Lenzerheide is also good for cross-country skiing with over 50 kilometres of cross country tracks, and for non-skiers, there are winter activities such as 8 natural ice curling rinks, tobogganing slopes at Obervaz, sledding, sleigh rides, and winter walks as well as an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, jacuzzi, indoor tennis, fitness centre, paragliding, and a sports hall.
Snowboarders will find in Lenzerheide-Valbella a purebred Snowboard Paradise with all its trimmings, including a shaped halfpipe at the Rothorn middle station of Scharmoin, to the left of the Crappa Grossa T-bar ski lift, a rough pipe near the Rothorn middle station Scharmoin, just above the shaped half pipe and a Nature Fun Pipe with its Fun Mobile, located to the right of the 4-seat chair lift Staetzer Taeli. There is also Table High Jumps near the 4-seat chair lift Pedra Grossa and 3 flagged powder runs, one from Rothorn via Alp Sanaspans, one from Schwarzhorn to Parpan and one from Schwarzhorn to the village of Tschiertschen. The Rothorn is also considered to be one of the great 'Freeride Mountains' in Swizterland and features innumerable slopes and ravines in just about all exposures and variations, providing a full complement of possibilities and fun. The 'Free Ride Safety Concept' is available at all of the usual starting locations in the region.
