Zermatt Transfers
Arrival by Train:
Hourly rail connections run to Zermatt from all major gateways, including directly from Geneva and Zürich airports. From either direction, one straight forward change of trains at Brig or Visp is normally required. This leg of the journey takes about three-and-a-half hours. On arrival in Brig (or Visp) there is a change of trains onto the romantic little BVZ (Brig-Visp-Zermatt) cog-wheel train for the 1 hour and 20 minute journey up the valley.

Arrival by Car:
If you are driving from Zürich or Basel, you can take the Lötschberg tunnel from Kandersteg to Goppen-stein, above Brig and Visp. Trains, with your car aboard, transit the tunnel every half hour from 5:10 a.m. to 11:10 p.m.; the trip takes only 15 minutes. Cost per car, including nine-seat vans, is €16.50. From Goppenstein, continue your drive to Visp, then on to Täsch. The car park, just outside the village of Täsch, is about three miles from Zermatt. Buses and trains connect Täsch with Zermatt approximately every 20 minutes; the ride takes eleven minutes. Parking costs approx. €4.80 per day. If you choose you can park you car for free in Visp and take the train to Zermatt.
Upon arriving in the village take a taxi to your hotel or apartment. The more upscale hotels usually have their own electric taxis or horse drawn carriages waiting for guests. There are plenty of electric taxis and sleighs for hire. The taxis charge by number of people and luggage, but other than going to and from the train station you can survive without ever using one. Taxi charges range from normally from €8 - €12 and the sleighs are about €13.
